2019 Thinkers

In 2019, the Thinkers in Residence program will be bringing a number of international speakers to Adelaide. They include the return of the former CEO of MaRS Dr Ilse Treurnicht and the return of our Primary Thinker in Residence for the Social Capital Residencies Allyson Hewitt in a concurrent visit throughout June 2019. We also welcome back Dr Nonie Brennan, Chief Executive of All Chicago Making Homelessness History, in November 2019.

The first Thinker for the Social Capital Residencies is Allyson Hewitt, Senior Fellow for social innovation at the highly successful MaRS Discovery District in Toronto, Canada.

Dr Ilse Treurnicht

Thinker in Residence

Ilse Treurnicht was CEO of MaRS Discovery District, a 1.5-million-sq.-ft. innovation hub located in Toronto. MaRS works with partners to catalyze, accelerate, scale and diffuse innovation in the areas of health, energy and environment, finance and commerce, and work and learning. MaRS supports innovators and entrepreneurs building high-impact growth businesses, offering specialized infrastructure as well as access to critical talent, capital and customer networks.

Dr Nonie Brennan

Thinker in Residence

Dr Brennan serves as Chief Executive Officer of All Chicago Making Homelessness History. Notable achievements under Dr Brennan’s leadership includes securing, distribution, and monitoring over $70 million in public and private funding for Chicago’s homeless system annually; and implementing Chicago’s Plan 2.0 – A Home for Everyone, in partnership with Chicago’s Department of Family and Support Services. She has led the systems change in Chicago over the last 15 years that has led to an overall reduction in the number of people experiencing homelessness by over 20%. Dr Brennan was selected as a Senior Advisor by the Institute of Global Homelessness in 2017.
