Join the Don Dunstan Foundation for a special night of music and reflection on the 50th anniversary of South Australia’s historic move to decriminalise homosexuality.

Special guests will join journalist Simon Royal to explore the long and winding road to decriminalisation, while an ensemble from the Adelaide Chamber Singers will perform excerpts from the outstanding oratorio, Watershed: The Death of Dr Duncan. Performed with special permission from composer Joe Twist, this will be a rare opportunity to revisit this moving and extraordinary work.

Panellists
The Hon Anne Levy introduced the Private Members’ Bill in the Legislative Council that went on to become the historic decriminalisation law. She was only the second woman to sit in South Australia’s Upper House and served the state with distinction as an MLC and Minister.

Simon Royal is one of South Australia’s finest journalists and broadcasters. He’s well-known to ABC viewers and listeners for his multi-faceted work over many years. Simon has written extensively about Dr Duncan and the battle to decriminalise homosexuality.

Will Sergeant OAM is a leading South Australian queer activist and historian. He is well-known for his alter ego Gertrude Glossip who has conducted tours of Adelaide’s queer history for many years.

The Adelaide Chamber Singers (ACS) are widely regarded as one of Australia’s finest and most distinguished chamber choirs, recognised globally as the very embodiment of the art of choral chamber singing. This year marks a significant milestone as the ensemble celebrates four decades at the forefront of the nation’s choral scene. Founded in 1985, ACS has been a passionate and innovative contributor to Australian music-making for 40 years, continually setting the standard for vocal excellence and artistic vision under the leadership of its current Artistic Director.

Soloist Mark Oates is an in-demand concert artist, who tours nationally and internationally with Aerial Artists Australia. A long-standing State Opera South Australia artist, Mark was recognised by the Adelaide Critic’s Circle for his body of work in 2022, including premiering the dual roles of Ian Duncan/Don Dunstan in the Ruby Award winning Watershed: The Death Of Dr Duncan.
