Raising a Glass to Don

More than 80 people attended this year’s “Raise a Glass” celebration, packing out the verandah of the Strathmore Hotel last week.

On a day of political drama with both Deputy Premier Susan Close and Treasurer Stephen Mullighan announcing their resignations, the annual celebration of Don Dunstan ending the “six o’clock swill” in 1967 had extra buzz. In fact, one of our guests – Attorney-General Kyam Maher – was publicly announced as Deputy Premier during the event.

The occasion also looked forward to 2026 – the centenary of Don’s birth.

The Don Dunstan Foundation will be marking the year with some exciting events – to be announced soon – and Don’s local community in Norwood is also looking for ways to celebrate one of its favourite sons.

The event raised a significant amount for the Foundation, so thanks to everyone who attended and those who donated auction prizes.

Special thanks to David Basheer from the Strathmore Hotel and the AHA (SA) for sponsoring the event.
