Celebrating Dr Lowitja O’Donoghue

Next week’s Lowitja O’Donoghue Oration is not the only event coming up to celebrate the life and impact of Dr O’Donoghue.

Next month, an exhibition about Dr O’Donoghue will open at the Hawke Centre.

LOWITJA – A Life of Leadership and Legacy is an exhibition that celebrates the extraordinary life of the transformative Aboriginal leader, who died last year.

Exhibits include items from Dr O’Donoghue’s extensive personal collection of papers, photographs, videos, speeches, and memorabilia, aligning to themes spanning across her lifetime including the stolen generations, nursing and health, Aboriginal affairs, ATSIC, significant achievements, family, and Indigenous peoples.

Dr O’Donoghue was a patron of The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre, accepting the late Hon Bob Hawke AC’s invitation in 1998 and serving in this role for many years.
