The Don Dunstan Foundation was proud to present the 2024 Housing Symposium, bringing together leaders and thinkers across the housing sector tobe part of the conversation shaping the future of housing in South Australia.

We were honored to host Alan Kohler, a prominent Australian journalist, TV personality and author of “The Great Divide – Australia’s Housing Mess and How to Fix It”. Mr. Kohler will delivered a thought-provoking keynote speech followed by an engaging question and answer session.

Hon Nick Champion MP, Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Minister for Housing Infrastructure, and Minister for Planning delivered the opening address.

SESSION 1 – WELCOME, OPENING AND SCENE SETTING (9:15 – 10:40)

SESSION 2 – BLUE SKY THNKING AND SOLUTIONS – THROUGH THE DUNSTAN LENS (11:00 – 13:00)

11:00 –  Panel discussion around what Dunstan would have made of today’s housing debate – and how a Dunstan-led State would have approached the task – including former Dunstan Colleague and Housing Minister Greg Crafter, Planning Commissioner and SAHA Board member Craig Holden and others.

12:00 – Panel discussion around what does success look like – through a social justice, sustainability and community lens – including Michelle Gegenhuber from Powerhousing, Andrew Bills from SA Power Networks, Benjamin Maxfield from IncoLink and others.

SESSION 3 – WHO ARE WE SERVING, WHAT ARE WE HERE FOR? (13:30 – 14:30)

Panel discussion facilitated by Ian Cox on Lived Experience case studies.

How do we engage those needing support in what is required? Speakers include: Alice Clark Shelter SA, Jessie Sleep Far West Community Partnerships, Yasmin Sinclair Wyatt, Dr Sonia Mascantonio SYC and Laura Cremen DFVSA.

SESSION 4 – CHALLENGES AND NEXT STEPS (14:45 – 16:45)

14:45 – Panel discussion on how we deliver / what is needed to deliver, including: Sally Kingsborough SAHA, Liam Golding UDIA and others.

15:30 – Innovation Showcase – Matt Clemow, Geoff Slack and others

16:00 – Reflections – Flinders University and The University of Adelaide

16:30 – Final Comments – SAHA
